INTERJECTION


Interjection is used to express emotions in sentences. It is usually used in the beginning of a sentence and followed by an exclamation mark. It is not related to any part of the sentence, as far as the grammatical agreement is concerned.

Types

There are three types of interjections, based on their forms; one word interjections, two words interjections, three or more words interjections. For example :-
Some one word interjections are :-
ਸ਼ਾਬਾਸ਼ shābāsh Well-done
ਆਹਾ āhā exclamation of delight or wonder
ਵਾਹ vāh wonderful, well-done, bravo
ਹਾਏ hāē an expression of pain, pleasure, grief or anxiety depending on intonation
ਹੈਂ haiṃ interrogative expression; what? is it?


Some two words interjections are :-
ਤੌਬਾ ਤੌਬਾ taubā taubā an expression of horror
ਬੱਲੇ ਬੱਲੇ ballē ballē bravo, well-done
ਹਾਏ ਹਾਏ hāē hāē an expression of pain or grief
ਲੱਖ ਲਾਹਣਤ lakkh lāhṇat exclamation of imprecation


Some three words interjections are :-
ਜੀ ਆਇਆਂ ਨੂੰ jī āiāṃ nūṃ Welcome
ਦੁਰ ਫਿਟੇ ਮੂੰਹ dur phiṭē mūṃh an expression of scorn or curse
ਜੁਗ ਜੁਗ ਜੀਵੋ jug jug jīvō long live!
ਵਾਹ ਬਈ ਵਾਹ vāh baī vāh bravo
