The CD of digitised versions of Puraatan Janam Saakhi in Gurmukhi and Shahmukhi (Urdu) has been developed at the Advanced Centre for Technical development of Punjabi Language, Literature and Culture, Punjabi University Patiala using the Gurmukhi to Shahmukhi Transliteration software, Sangam. The Shahmukhi version is available in both Nashq and Nastaliq fonts. This is the first time that the Janam Saakhi has been transliterated into Shahmukhi.

Janam Sakhis are accounts on the life of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, each consisting of a series of separate incidents or chapters normally in chronological order, entitled sakhis or gosts. The script for the JanamSakhis is Gurmukhi, but the language is either Punjabi or the composite dialect called Sant Bhasa. References of Guru Nanak Dev Jis life can be found in other works but none of these give us an insight beyond the Janam-Sakhis. The Janam Sakhis have great historical importance and the availablity of the Janam Sakhi in Shahmukhi will greatly benefit the Urdu speaking researchers particularly in Pakistan.
